Companies That Test On Animals — 2018
The following list consists of companies that are not cruelty-free. Its main source is PETA, and I’ve supplemented it with my own research.

These brands engage in animal testing OR fund animal testing in some capacity, the most common example being by testing on animals where the law requires it.

Big Corporations Who Test On Animals

Most of these brands are owned by a few giant corporations: L’Oreal, Estee Lauder, Procter & Gamble, Clorox, Johnson & Johnson, S.C. Johnson, Colgate-Palmolive, Reckitt Benckiser, Church & Dwight, Unilever, and Henkel.

These companies own the majority of the brands we commonly find in most retailer stores and drugstores, and they’re making no real efforts to change their unethical policies.

There are however two exceptions, the first one being Colgate-Palmolive, which have agreed to gradually change their policy. PETA currently lists Colgate-Palmolive as “working toward regulatory changes to reduce the number of animals used for testing”. This does NOT mean the company is or will be cruelty-free in the near future! It’s only a small step in the right direction, and the company still DOES test on animals at this point.

The second exception consists of a few select brands. While in most cases, brands that are owned by companies that test on animals are not cruelty-free, L’Oreal is one of the few companies to own brands that have kept their ethical stances and have remained cruelty-free under the ownership. The same goes for Too Faced and Becca (now owned by Estee Lauder but still cruelty-free) and Tom’s of Maine (Colgate-Palmolive). All the brands mentioned on this list, however, do test on animals.

Lavender Eau de Toilette

I was glancing over this book that I’ve had for a while called Bath Scents by Alan Hayes. I found this cool recipe for Lavender Toilet Water.  I made it and I am quite pleased with the results.  What made it even more awesome is that I have lavender plants around my home and I already had lavender oil so the only thing I really needed to buy was some vodka.

Here’s what you’ll need.

  • Spray Bottles (Save empty hair spray bottles and rinse out well and you can repurpose them)
  • 16 ounces distilled water (500 ml)
  • 2 ounces (50 g) lavender buds (about 4 teaspoons dried)
  • 10 ounces vodka (310 ml)
  • 6 drops lavender essential oil

Directions:  Place 2 ounces of lavender buds in a large ceramic bowl and pour boiling 16 ounces of distilled water.  (Personally I used tap water because it’s for my own use.)  Allow it to steep for 12 hours or overnight for a strong infusion.  Oh wow your home will smell absolutely divine!!  Use muslin, cheese cloth or a strainer to separate the lavender buds from the lavender infusion.

Add the vodka and lavender oil, seal in a bottle and leave to stand for two weeks.  Drip through a coffee filter after 2 weeks and then rebottle.

Honestly it smells really nice and not over bearing.  I use it as an air freshener, spray it on my hair and body.  It smells really clean and not over powerful.  I really like it and I hope you do too.

I think this would make a lovely gift for someone.  The greatest thing is that there’s no junk in this spray.  Making your own stuff can be really fun and can save you $$ as well.  Feel free to share this with your friends and comment about your thoughts.

Ciao Bella

It kind of looks like lavender tea.  It’s not all Martha Stewarty but then again, I’m not Martha Stewart.

Multi Purpose Hand Sanitizer

pexels-photo-207518.jpegLast year I had a party and made these favors that were hand sanitizers.  I must have made 150 of them as favors.  You know I didn’t want to run out.  Needless to say, I had many left overs.  I gave many away to friends and family as there is a shelf life to these babies.

These are the  uses I’ve found for them:

  1. Hand Sanitizer: Duh
  2. Hand Moisturizer:  They have fractionated cocoanut oil in them.  A little goes a long way and they do moisturize your hands quite nicely.
  3. Make Up Remover:  Since I was giving them away because I had so many, had been using cocoanut oil to take off my make up.  So I thought, I wonder if this will work.  Well it worked quite nicely.  I was really happy to make this discovery because I feel the ingredients are very good for my skin as well.

neutrogena ingredients

These ingredients don’t look very enticing plus they also come in a big Fat Plastic Bag.  Just say no and make your own or just use cocoanut oil to remove make up.

I did have friends asking me for more of this stuff.  Making it and delivering it does take quite a bit of effort when you consider all that I am doing.  I am just not set up to be a manufacturer too.  So I will make another small batch to give to my peeps.  But in the meantime, here is the recipe that I’m sure you will love.

This makes 4- 4 oz bottles:

Hand Purifying Spray

  • 1 Cup Distilled Water
  • 1/2 cup Witch Hazel
  • 1/2 Cup Fractionated Coconut Oil
  • 20 Drops Tea Tree Essential Oil
  • 20 Drops Lavender Essential OIl
  • 20 Drops Lemon Essential Oil

Directions to make

Combine all ingredients in a bowl.  Mix Well.  Using a funnel, pour it into 4 4oz spray bottles.

Spray on hands, rub thoroughly until spray has been absorbed into skin and let air dry.  I also use it to take off make up. I use it to take off my eye make up and did not have any problems but do that at your own risk.  Seriously would you rather use this or that toxic cocktail from Neutrogena?

Well that’s it.  I hope you try it and enjoy it as much as I did.  Stay strong and know that you can make all the difference in the world.  Just remember that you do matter.  One person at a time making positive changes can have a great influence.

Thanks Earth Angel!!  You rock!!  And after you make this, let me know how many blessings you start receiving.  You are making a conscious choice to do a good thing and you will be rewarded.  As you put out good, good thing will come to you.  Remember that.

How To Smell Fresh the Healthy Way

pexels-photo-207518.jpegI get it that we all want to smell good.  We want to cover up any evidence that we are human and that we sweat and sometimes get stinky.  This discussion is about antiperspirants and deodorant that is sold in many drug stores across the United States and world-wide.  I do not use anti-perspirant because there are so many toxic ingredients.

So what is the first reason that I don’t like it? That is because it has aluminum in the ingredients.  Aluminum has been linked to Alzheimer’s.  So this article is not about that.  But there has been research done and I am not going to gamble on my life just so I can not sweat and also take the risk of Alzheimers.  So if you want to take that risk.  Knock yourself out.  We all have this wonderful thing called free will.  And you get to decide how you live your life and if that’s how you want to do it.  That’s your choice.  But I’m making a different decision.

The second reason is that it stops you from sweating.  What is the reason to sweat?  To rid our body of toxins. (more here on that subject).  We must be able to release this from our body and if our under arms are clogged, it can’t get out.  So where does it go?  Gee maybe to your lymph nodes which contributes to breast cancer.  So not only does it contribute to Alzheimer’s but also breast cancer.

Don’t worry dear ones you don’t have to  have to just suffer with the funk?  To be perfectly honest, I use this natural blend I came up with.  It’s actually this natural toothpaste.  I guess it has multiple uses.  I was on vacation and I had forgotten my deodorant at home so I used the toothpaste and it worked great.  I did not smell.

But I do have an actual spray on recipe, if that would make you feel better.  But I have not tried this.  The tooth paste does work but you have to try for you.wild-flowers-flowers-plant-macro-40797.jpeg

Also remember when you make your own products, you are being super eco-friendly.  Because you put it in your own jar and didn’t buy a plastic container. So you are not only saving yourself $$ big time.  But you’re saving the planet.  And that makes you a Super Hero.  And you are sticking up for yourself and refusing to use something that is harmful to your welfare.

pexels-photo-248797.jpeg

So before you put it all over do a little patch test.  Put a small amount on the inside of your forearm to test for a reaction.  If after a couple of hours you don’t see anything then you are golden to use it.

So here is the recipe for the spray on deodorant:

  • 4 ounces witch hazel
  • 20 drops therapeutic-grade tea tree essential oil
  • 20 drops therapeutic-grade lavender essential oil
  • 2 teaspoons organic coconut oil melted
  • glass spray bottle
  1. Boil a cup of hot water and put the hot water in a bowl.
  2. In a smaller cup or bowl (espresso mug) put the witch hazel in the bowl to warm up slightly.  Pour in glass bottle
  3. melt the coconut oil and pour in glass bottle (use a funnel)
  4. Add the essential oils, shake up and you are done.

I know it’s so much easier to just go shopping and buy it.  So there are natural alternatives to antiperspirants that you can purchase.  Here are some good suggestions for you to consider.  Just try to see the possibility of staying healthy.  You really have to be your own best advocate.  If you don’t look out for yourself, who else will do it?

If you take a shower at night, you can put it on before bed because you never know what can happen after the lights go out.

Tea tree oil is an amazing natural beauty product that should be a staple in any woman’s beauty arsenal. How to use tea tree oil for hair

Using tea tree oil for hair is an easy and effective way to maintain healthy hair and a healthy scalp. You can apply tea tree oil for hair in many ways, by simply massaging the oil onto your scalp or adding a few drops to your favorite shampoo.

  • For daily cleansing: You can easily make your own tea tree oil shampoo at home by adding a few drops of tea tree oil to your favorite shampoo. This will help to enhance the shampoo’s therapeutic properties. Apply the mixture to the scalp and gently massage for a few minutes, then rinse thoroughly. Massaging the mixture into the scalp will help enhance the medicinal properties of the tea tree oil.
  • For hair growth: tea tree oil helps to unclog hair follicles and nourish your roots. To use tea tree oil as a hair growth treatment, mix a few drops of tea tree oil with any carrier oil (coconut, jojoba, almond). Mix it well and massage the mixture onto the scalp. Rinse thoroughly. The mixture should feel refreshing and will have a tingling effect on your scalp. Tea tree oil can also be mixed with olive oil to add softness, smoothness and to add a protective layer that will be resistant to toxins and will help to promote hair growth. To prepare, warm olive oil for a few seconds and mix in 3-5 drops of tea tree oil. Apply this mixture to your scalp and hair at least once a day for 3 weeks in order to see amazing results.
  • For dry scalp: Tea tree oil is amazing for your dry scalp as it moisturizes and nourishes your scalp and hair. It helps to clear the blockages in the pores and helps to prevent dryness and itching. To use tea tree oil for your dry scalp, take a few drops of tea tree oil and mix it well with jojoba oil. Massage the mixture gently onto your scalp for 10-15 minutes. Rinse out thoroughly and wash your hair as normal. Repeat this process regularly to relieve any symptoms associated with dry scalp. Tea tree oil can also be added to your regular conditioner to help relieve the itchiness caused by dry scalp. Simply shampoo your hair as normal, then add a few drops of tea tree oil to your regular conditioner. Mix it well and apply to your scalp and hair. Leave it on for a few minutes, then rinse off completely.
  • For dandruff: Tea tree oil contains antifungal and antibacterial properties that fight against the fungus that causes dandruff, and does so without drying your scalp. It works as a natural conditioner to your hair and eliminates any agents that are causing your skin to flake. Simply add tea tree oil to your existing shampoo, about 10 drops for every 8 ounces of shampoo in the bottle. Shampoo your hair thoroughly and allow the tea tree oil mixture to sit on your hair for at least 3-5 minutes. This will let the oil work itself into the hair and begin to treat the scalp. After the oil has set, rinse the shampoo from your hair thoroughly.
  • Hot oil treatment: Tea tree oil can be added to any of your favorite hot oil treatments to add moisture to your scalp and help to treat dryness/itchiness. Choose any carrier oil such as jojoba, olive, sesame, castor, almond or coconut oil. Add 1-2 drops of tea tree oil to ½ cup of oil (use less if your hair is naturally more prone to oiliness, more if it is more prone to dryness). Warm your oil mixture by heating plain water on the stove. Wait until the water is just about to boil and remove the pot from the stove. Put the oil mixture in a separate container and place it in the warm water until the oil warms up. Test the oil on your wrist first to check the temperature, making sure it is not too hot. Section your hair into four sections, to make distribution easier and more even. Using an applicator bottle or your hands, apply the oil to your hair, distributing evenly. Carefully massage the mixture into your scalp and coat through to your ends. Cover your hair with a plastic shower cap and let the oil treatment sit on your hair for at least 30 minutes. Shampoo and condition as normal.
  • Hair mask: Tea tree oil can be used in a hair mask to help eliminate dandruff, dryness and itchy skin. Begin by choosing a base for your mask – one cup of plain yogurt or one whole avocado mashed up. Both are thick enough to act as a paste and will also moisturize due to their abundance of healthy fats. Add 10 drops of argan oil, 2 tablespoons of honey (both will aid in hydration and act as a glue). Add some drops of tea tree oil and stir the mixture until smooth and creamy. Using gloves, apply the mixture directly to your scalp, press in and massage gently using your fingertips. Leave on for 10 minutes, then make sure to rinse out thoroughly. If you don’t have time for a DIY mask try adding tea tree oil to a conditioning treatment like HAIRFINITY Haircare

Tips, tricks and facts for using tea tree oil for hair

  • Tea tree oil can be used on any type of hair, no matter what style, texture or length
  • Tea tree oil on its own is quite strong, so be sure to dissolve the oil into another carrier oil (like coconut, jojoba or olive) before applying to your hair or scalp. When applied in its undiluted form, tea tree oil can actually be very irritating and can cause itching and dryness. Stop using tea tree oil if you notice redness, rash, or irritation.
  • There are many tea tree oil based hair products like shampoos, conditioners, hair oils and dandruff shampoos on the market now to choose from. Try more than one type to see what works best for you and your individual needs.
  • Tea tree oil can cause allergies in some people, so try doing a patch test first with your diluted solution before applying it to your scalp or hair.
Try using a mixture of carrier oil with tea tree oil on dry hair. This may help to reduce or eliminate stubborn dandruff from the scalp.
  • Make sure that you are only using a few drops of tea tree oil with your carrier oil, or if using with a shampoo/conditioner, adding only 10 drops for every 8 ounces of shampoo/conditioner. If too much is used, it can have the opposite effect and cause hair to become extremely brittle and weak.
  • Tea tree oil is not only a great solution for hair but can also help to treat a number of skin infections and respiratory problems.

Tea tree oil has been used for thousands of years, and for good reason. Its natural antibacterial, antimicrobial, antiseptic and antiviral properties make it a great all natural treatment for many scalp ailments, like dandruff, oily hair and itchy scalp. Tea tree oil is one of the healthiest natural oils available and very effective as a treatment to increase hair growth.
