How To Be Strong In Body, Mind and Spirit the Easy Way

How To Be Strong In Body..

But depending on your current health condition, this is going to determine what kind of exercise you do. But the main thing is to start moving around and start walking, stretching and getting your heart rate up. If you have no concept of exercise or maybe are recovering from an injury then you really want to start out very slowly. Pilates is a great!! But it has to be a gentle class. Then once you get those principals down you can integrate those activities into your daily life.

For example if you have to type or be on your laptop, as you type you can ensure that you sit up straight. If you really want to go gangster with it you can engage your abs. So basically you have to engage your core when you do your daily living activities. If you are lifting, use your legs. These are just examples of what you can do. But no matter what you do start out slow and start to become aware of how the body actually moves.

How To Be Strong in Your Mind

A little coloring can take away stress.

There are many ways to be strong in your mind. Reading, puzzles and music are great ways to have a strong mind. You have to use your brain in different ways. This means that you try to do different things basically. Use your non dominant hand to brush your teeth, Walk a different route. Just do something different. If you usually have tea at 2:00 in a certain room, go to a different room. Call an old friend and catch up. Learning new things is another way to be strong in your mind. Meditation can also help to allow your mind to focus on one thing for a specific period of time.

How To Be Strong in Spirit

This one is really tricky. Nobody can tell you how to be strong in spirit. It’s something you have to figure out for yourself. I can tell you how I do it but then you would find a reason why my way is the wrong way. But I know what works for me. I think the most important thing to do is to have an attitude of actually wanting to connect with your higher power. You must have the intention that you want to connect.

Often times this comes about during times of great grief. When you lose a loved one or have tragedy. When people have nowhere else to go then they will turn to God. I think a good old fashioned praying on your knees is a good thing. There’s nothing wrong with it. Pull out that bible and crack it open. Just start to ponder how Jesus is working in your life.

Meditation and prayer along with yoga are also a great way to connect with your higher power.

So now you have a basic concept of how to be strong in your Mind, Body and Spirit. It’s not easy or difficult. You just have to try. Just try to have fun more than anything and remember that your life is whatever you chose to focus on.

How’s This Pandemic Treating You?

“I Don’t Think There’s a Feeling You’re Having That I Can’t Validate.” Janice in Terms of Endearment

No matter who you are this pandemic is having an effect on you. From the children who are suddenly at home from school, to the workers who are suddenly out of a job to the people who have contracted coronavirus, this isn’t a joke. This is a historical moment in history and whatever you’re feeling, you are entitled to feel that way.

This is a dynamic situation that is very much changing moment to moment and day to day. For those of us that are given the great privilege to shelter in place, consider yourself among the most privileged. Nobody said privileged was easy. And however you choose to deal with it is definitely up to you. On social media you can get a feeling for how people are coping. There are people who are drinking alcohol to lots of comfort eating and lots of fear is undeniable.

I Got Accused of Spreading Panic

I didn’t publish anything on my website regarding my views because it wasn’t publish worthy. After all the leaders were saying this was a hoax. But I was posting on social media about washing hands and sounding the alarm because many of my friends were running around going to plays, using public transportation and just enjoying their life but there was the corona virus beginning to spread and I wanted my friends to know that it was coming and what they can do to protect themselves. It was a stress response for me to feel that I was doing something. I don’t regret doing this but now I feel that people are now taking this issue seriously for the most part so I’ve decided to let this go. I just didn’t want to see my friends get sick because I didn’t say something.

So How Are You Doing?

You really have to look at your behavior. I talk to many people and they act like they are so cool. Like nothing is bothering them. I’m like really? Do you realize what’s happening? Maybe they are numb. Maybe they don’t know how to cope so they just don’t feel anything. But in any case we are all entitled to our own feelings. And how other people are coping shouldn’t really be too much of your concern. Of course if your child is upset, you want to comfort them or if someone you love wants to talk about their feelings you can listen. But for the most part the only person you can really have any influence over is yourself.

What Are You Doing During This LockDown?

Photo by Eternal Happiness on Pexels.com

Well you really do have many options. You can eat whatever you want, you can watch whatever you want on TV, you can read whatever you want and so forth. But the actions you take can have very different effects on your life. If you stress eat while watching news and drinking alcohol, you might end up gaining alot of weight and maybe become an alcoholic which can have tragic consequences.

Or you can still be really concerned about what’s happening and maybe decide that you really can’t deal with this and you can give it over to your higher power. Just really ask God to take the burden and like a boss, he will. That’s what I chose to do because I was freaking out to be quite honest.

You’re Literally Not Alone

Everyone else in the whole world is coping with this situation. So there are many people you can talk to about this situation. If your friends and family aren’t encouraging, find a support group on line or get professional help. There are many resources available to assist you. This is an unusual time but we will get through this.

Ask Yourself What You Can Do

Since many people have to stay at home, the best thing to do is to establish a routine. Wake up around the same time (but don’t beat yourself up if you struggle with this.) Stay hydrated no matter what and start to make a list of some things you enjoy doing. Also a list of things that have to get done like laundry and dishes. Look around and see if there are any special projects that you can contemplate working on. Cleaning is an essential function as well as laundry and some sort of food preparation and or going out for food.

There’s Nothing Wrong With Prayer

Prayer is very powerful. It not only helps the people that are praying but it also helps the people you are praying for. So do me a favor and say a prayer for the your loved ones, for a vaccine and for all of the essential workers that are really taking care of us during this difficult time. If you are fortunate enough to shelter in place we really do owe them a lot of appreciation. Maybe reach out to one of your essential worker friends and family and let them know you care.

It’s OK to Have Fun

I’ve been called a party monkey back in the day. What can I say other than I like to have fun. So I choose to listen to great music and dance and sing. On March 31, 2020 it was JS Bach’s 335th Birthday. I did a video to celebrate. This is a great piece of music. This is what I do for fun but you can surely enjoy or do whatever you enjoy.

Is It Time to Break Up with Your Phone?

Photo by Tracy Le Blanc on Pexels.com

Is Your Phone Problematic?

Let’s face it in this point in time everyone has a phone and is probably spending too much time on it. All you have to do is look around at teenagers walking down the street looking at their phone with their neck in a bad position to realize that this getting to be too much. Also the amount of car accidents that are caused by texting and driving is a big enough cause for alarm. But let’s just say you are smart enough not to walk/drive and text. You might say, “I don’t do those things, so it’s not a problem.”

Review Screentime

First do a little review of your screen time and you will see exactly how much time you actually spend on your phone per day. Once that is viewed one might begin to realize the amount of time that is actually spent on their phone. Once you view that, you can begin to decide if that’s really how you want to spend your time.

Bad Posture

An article from Forbes discusses the negative impacts of social media. But also the physical act of being on the phone usually results in your posture being put in a really bad position. Next time your on your phone, put in on camera and take a picture to see what position your neck and shoulders are in. Most likely, it’s not pretty.

Is it helping you reach your goals?

Depending on your goals, is your phone helping you reach your goals. There are many beneficial apps such as Subliminal Vision Boards that really do help you reach your goals. And also fitness apps and various app such as Calm that really do help you with your goals. But is scrolling mindlessly through Twitter really helping you? If the answer is no then you might decide that it’s time to give your phone a break. It’s doable but it will take a little practice because to be honest, it can turn into an addiction.

Photo by Nika Akin on Pexels.com

How To Get Off Your Phone

First thing is to realize that you might have a problem with it. Unless you need the phone for work, you’re going to have to make a little plan and figure out what you can do to replace the mindless scrolling.

1)Decide that at a certain hour, you are going to take a break from it. Have a pad of paper nearby because you will need that paper to write down all of the urges you have to get on the phone. Suppose you are on a break and you say to yourself, “I must text my spouse and tell them I love them.” Write it down on the note pad and after your break from your phone is over, send the text. Perhaps you get the urge to look up the weather for tomorrow, write down on your trustee pad to look up weather for tomorrow. And then you can look up later. You get the idea.

2) What are you going to do during the time, you’re not on the phone? This is the fun part. There is so much you can do when you are not on your phone. You can read, write, sing, color, clean up your place, decorate, play a musical instrument, dance, mow the lawn, wash your car, cook, go grocery shopping, write a letter… the possibilities are endless. Basically you can live in the real world. You can plan what you actually want instead of being a phone zombie.

3) Set up a support network. Maybe there is a friend you have that you can call up and tell them what you are trying to do. There are probably support groups to help. Just know that the urge to get on your phone will pass. It’s called urge surfing. Be aware of the urge to use the phone and breathe and allow it to pass by like a cloud. It can also be used for other addictions.

It’s not easy to do change habits but if you clean instead of get on your phone, you’ll have a clean place in no time. Put that phone down and nobody will get hurt.

How to be the Person You Want to be

How to be the Person You Want to be
Do you want to be a better version of yourself? Whether it’s being smarter, kinder, getting a better job, or finding a loving relationship, self-improvement always starts with you. As Gandhi said, “You must be the change you wish to bring into the world.” And he wasn’t wrong. As we go steadily through our days, the only way to achieve more and find greater satisfaction with the world is by becoming the best version of ourselves. This isn’t the challenge that you might be expecting. There are a number of small but very positive steps that you can take to improve your way of thinking, boost creativity, and take you closer to being the person that you aspire to be. It also can involve removing toxic people from your life. Here is how to be the person you want to be.

The Better Version of ‘You’: Have a goal

Most people dream of being ‘better’ don’t fully understand what that means in any real terms. For those who hope to grow personally, the first step is to identify exactly what you don’t want. Without knowing what aspects of your lifestyle, personality, or habits you want to change, it is much harder to implement the right changes.

Don’t be afraid to let your goals evolve, but always have a plan and direction to head in. Having a clear idea about who you are right now and what you want to change about yourself is the first step to making the necessary changes and becoming a better version of yourself.

Make the changes to be the person you want to be

The changes you make don’t have to be grandiose. There’s no need to immediately quit your job or sign up for the gym today. Often, the smallest of changes can have the most long-lasting and positive effects. Taking up a new hobby is a good way to make a positive change in your life. There are many social and mental health benefits to choosing a good hobby. It might be pursuing a new collection or a sport you hadn’t tried before.

With so many options possible, it can be tricky to narrow things down. Unique sports like Cloud Chasing are growing in popularity, so if that’s something that you’re interested in, then invest in some quality e-liquids from Juice.co.uk. No matter which hobby you choose, your confidence can grow. You deserve to be the person you want to be.

Eliminate toxic people

The problem with toxic people is that they don’t always reveal themselves until they are already part of your life. Often, you meet them through family members, friends or at the workplace; this makes them much harder to avoid or simply cut out of your life. If toxic people are unavoidable, then you need to be firm in setting up personal boundaries.

Stop allowing toxic people to pull your into drama and irrelevant crises. Hopefully you’ll find that positivity is much easier to achieve then. Ideally, you want to surround yourself with positive influences. Those toxic friendships can detract from and overwhelm the good things in life.

The path to becoming the person you want to be doesn’t always mean making huge life changes. Take small steps, and you’ll gradually grow into the better version of yourself.

Sing Like Nobody is Watching

IMG_6844

Recently I did a performance and many people were telling me that they admired my courage to sing in front of people.  I told them that I just decided that I was going to be brave and not worry about what other people think.

I read a really good book which I highly recommend for anyone that wants to pursue their dreams or goals.  The main thing I got from this book was that you have to do what makes you happy and forget about what everyone else thinks or says.  Also if someone criticizes you, then tell them to come and do a better job.  So that attitude really resonated with me.  The name of that book is Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert.

big magic

Just to be clear that I am a student.  I am not a professional.  My preparation to sing this song began about 11 months prior when I first started listening to this song by Lindsey Stirling called Shatter Me and I just really fell in  love with that song.  I listened to that song over and over on a road trip.

I wasn’t sure I would be able to sing that song because it seemed like a difficult song to me.  I spoke to my voice teacher and she said, “Let’s do it in G Minor.”  So I got the music and we started working on it in December 2017.  It was very brutal at first.  Just painful to listen to.  But I just kept working on it.

After a while I asked my music teacher if maybe someone could accompany me on the violin.  So she was able to find an advanced student to accompany me.  (Please note that she did not want to be videotaped.  We had to actually edit her out because she did not want to have her images on the web.  But Rebekah is beautiful and an amazing violinist.)  The first time we rehearsed together was brutal.  Imagine trying to sing with someone banging drums right in your ear.  I couldn’t believe how thrown off I was.  My music teacher said it’s completely normal.  When the violin accompanies me, I was listening to her play and my timing was off and it was way more difficult than I thought.  It’s like I am distracting her by singing and she was distracting me by playing the violin.  The thing is we had to be in sync with our timing.

In any event this is the results of the preparation.  I watched numerous George Michael Videos.  I became a bit obsessed with him (which is a completely different story.) In any case this is the result.  Thanks for watching and any kind words are appreciated.  Also remember I am a student.  Think of your kid that’s been singing for a couple of years.  T

This time of year it’s very popular to make changes with New Year’s Resolutions and all.  We have great expectations but when it comes time to actually implementing those changes or intentions.  That’s when the difficulty comes in.  I mean you are already super busy with a jam- packed schedule, so how on earth can you find time for one more thing?

This answer is that something has got to leave your schedule or you just have to make that new thing a priority.  Meaning that you do it first before you do that other thing.  Now maybe you like to get on social media.  So make a little agreement with yourself that before you even think about pushing that little Blue square with an f on it that you will do that priority.  After you have done you’re “priority”, you can f away.  I mean get on the blue f as much as you want.

I think the morning routine is an essential part to having a great day.  If you wake up and do some stretches or yoga, breathing, praying or simply have some quiet time for positive affirmations before you start doing all of the stuff to get ready, you can have a much happier day.  So that’s where that blue f comes into play.  This means don’t f your day away.

Other things may have to give in order for you to make your priority.  Maybe you’ll have to take some time off of work in order to give yourself that time.  Is that the end of the world? HELL NO.  Trust me when you are on your death-bed, you’re not going to think, “I should have worked more.”  You might think, I’m glad I followed my heart and my passions.  But you have to fight for your dreams and passions.  (Think of Twisted Sister here: “You’ve got to fight for your right to dre am”).  Yeah that was me singing there.  But you have to be fierce with it.  You have to just say you know what, I’m going to do this and nothing is going to stop me.  Not laundry, not dishes, not TV, not work(don’t get fired though), not your spouse or partner, not your kids. But if you can rearrange things a little bit, I’m sure you can find the time to pursue your dreams.

Twisted Sister i.e. the big hair band of the 80’s that sang Fight For Your Right to Party

This is my quick story with this.  So as a Yoga Instructor, you would think I would be doing yoga everyday and just be super flexible and bendy.  Well last year, I wasn’t.  Life can get in the way.  And it can be difficult to just pull out that yoga mat.  But when I knew I was going to do a dance performance.  I knew that I need to get flexible AF and fast.  So what I did was got my phone, put it on stop watch and did 2 full sun salutes.  It took 6 minutes.  I just decided that every morning before work I was going to give myself 6 minutes for yoga.  And it did help me to get flexible.  I was able to do the splits, believe it or not.    But in any case it all started with me just giving myself 6 minutes in the morning.

splits

2017 not bad for 49 but my daughter snapped this picture fast because I was not enjoying  this.

Remember Newton’s first law of motion, “An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.”  So you have to be that unbalanced force and mix things up a little bit.

And it can be scary to change things up because you are letting go of the old way of doing things.  But in no time, those old habits will just be a thing of the past and you can go on with your life knowing that you were able to make one small change.  The next step is to decide  what else you would like to change.

Talking about Subliminal Vision Boards

subliminal vision boards

I recently had the opportunity to have a conversation with the co- creator of Subliminal Vision Boards.  I wasn’t too sure exactly what those were.  I met the Co-Creator of Subliminal Vision Boards, Jennifer Casolary where other like minded people come together, Facebook.

The typical vision boards involve getting poster board, magazines and cutting out pictures and gluing the pictures onto the poster board.  The pictures are supposed to help you manifest your goals.old fashioned vision board

                                              Old School Vision Board

Jennifer explained to me that she was living a mediocre life with her fiancé outside of Las Vegas and she decided to create a vision board. Her experience of creating a traditional vision boards involved the purchase of  poster board and a trip to Barnes and Noble to buy some magazines.  To her disappointment she left Barnes and Noble disappointed because she couldn’t find any magazines with images that she wanted on her vision board.

Jennifer’s father had passed away two days before her birthday.  He had a Mantra which was to Live Fully, Live and Enjoy Life.  She didn’t feel as though she was living fully  enjoying her life.

One day she was scrolling through Facebook and her friend had done a Vision board and the idea came to her to do a Subliminal Vision Board App.  She began to work on her vision and it took 3 years to develop the Android version of the App and another year for the IOS version.  The Subliminal Vision Board takes Vision Boards to a whole other level. It utilizes google Images and is Multi Sensory.  You have the portability of your phone so you can take it with you where ever you go.  It also has the ability to be used on multiple devises.

subliminal dreams   Example of a Subliminal Vision Board.  The possibilities are endless.

Prior to writing this article I was not familiar with the Subliminal Vision Board App but I did Download it to my phone.  I watched the tutorial video which was easy to understand and I made my First Subliminal Vision Board in no time.  You can make as many vision boards as you want and you can also add music, sound frequencies.  I found it to be very amazing.  There is a Take 5 feature, where each image and text that is placed on the vision board is flashed at a speed that your Subconscious Mind picks up. This allows you to reprogram the negative deep seeded limiting beliefs into positive empowering ones instead. The app also has a Notification Set Up feature where you set up a time every day to dedicate 5 minutes to focus on what is desired. This feature keeps you accountable to your goals and keeps them in the fore front. Also you can record your own voice and there are ancient powerful Solfeggio Frequencies that can heal your mind and your body.  The  other thing I thought was amazing is that .25cents of each purchase of the Subliminal Vision Board app goes to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

My first Vision Board involved relaxation and winding down.  I need to relax in the evening so I can make sure to shut it down.  I have the tendency to keep going and going and going.  Well needless to say I did sleep very well that first night after watching it.  You can watch it for 5 minutes or longer if you choose.

I asked Jennifer how her life had changed since developing this amazing App.  She said she now lives in North Carolina close to her family and is getting ready to move to the beach (which is a dream come true) and quit her job so she can focus 100% of her time on the App.  She also met Tony Robbins and was able to give him her business card at one of his amazing conferences.  She also feels that she is living a full life that would make her father proud.

Jennifer  This is Jennifer.

Jennifer recommends when you first make your vision board a good place to start is to ask yourself what do you want to heal and what do you want to manifest.

5 star

All in all I give this a 5 Star rating as the cost is only $4.99, it has so many benefits and a donation to St. Jude’s Hospital.  I want to thank Jennifer for being such a visionary and for helping so many people live fulfilling lives.  Do me a favor and let me know how you like the App.  You can check it out here:  Subliminal vision Boards.

How to set Dreams and Goals for 2018

Happy-New-Year-Wishes-2018-1

Well 2017 has come and gone.  This was an amazing year.  I feel like I really lived it.  Some years let’s just be honest have been terrible.  This year for me personally was really good.  I had the following major accomplishments: RETIREMENT, AMBER DOG, Performances and I’ve been able to keep my sanity for the most part.

I looked over my goals for 2017 and I have to say that I have stuck with them.  That just means I need to continue to add to my goals.  I mean if I could nail the goals for 2017 then I can surely continue to nail the goals for 2018.

Since I’ve retired my focus has shifted.  I was super stressed when I was working and now that I’ve retired it’s time for me to get serious about relaxation and just settling into my groove.  Retirement is a Huge Adjustment and unless you’ve done it, I don’t think you quite get it.val_edited-9177

This is me thinking about positive thoughts.  Give it a try and see what happens.

One of the main reasons I started this blog was to give me a way to focus my energy in a positive manner.

So how do you set goals anyway?

  1. Keep it simple.  Make too many goals and you end up not doing anything.
  2. It doesn’t need to have anything to do with fitness or health.  This is a popular resolution but you can set whatever goal or dream you want.  This is your chance to really get creative with your dreams and try to figure out exactly what it is that you want anyway.
  3. Write it down.  Perhaps your resolution could be to start journaling.  If you have never journaled or not for a while, this is a great time to start.
  4. Tell someone what your goal is with the hope that you can get some accountability and also once you tell someone, it reinforces your goal because you are discussing it.
  5. Day dream about your goals.  What would it look like if you had this?  How would you feel?  Imagine it’s already yours and be happy knowing that it’s coming into fruition.

Feel free to comment below with some of your dreams and goals.  Remember the more you talk about it, the more likely it will happen.  So I’ll go ahead and get this party started by sharing my dreams and goals for 2018.

  • Daily yoga (at least 10 minutes)
  • Meditation at least 3 days per week but the more the better
  • Dance daily at least 20 minutes
  • Write daily at least 20 minutes
  • Go on a plane for vacation
  • Shop local, vegan diet and breathe through all difficulties
  • Transform my guest bedroom.
  • Keep singing

VAL DANCING FOR RONI

This is me dancing at my party and having fun.  This is what dreams look like.  Just do it.

Now see that wasn’t so difficult.  Well here’s to an amazing 2018.  Don’t worry about all the drama that’s going on in the world.  You allow what comes into your reality.  Choose wisely.
