Arthritis—a medical condition characterized by chronic and sometimes debilitating joint pain—is the leading cause of disability in the United States according to the Arthritis Foundation.[1]

Additionally, this condition currently afflicts roughly 54 million adult Americans, with this number expected to rise to 78 million by the year 2040.

In an effort to relieve this chronic pain and improve their quality of life without having to rely on what are oftentimes highly addictive painkillers, many arthritis patients are seeking alternative treatments.

Many are finding these positive results with CBD products.

CBD stands for cannabidiol, a chemical compound found in hemp plants.

The way it works is by interacting with our endocannabinoid system, which is where the CBD attaches to cannabinoid receptors (CB1 and CB2 receptors, specifically) located throughout our body to create a variety of healthful effects.[2]

CBD is different than medical marijuana in that it is nonpsychoactive in nature. So, when patients use CBD to better manage their arthritis pain, they don’t get the high typically associated with this particular drug.

How well does it work as a form of arthritis treatment? Let’s look at the research.

Research has found that CBD products such as cannabidiol oil, hemp oil, and other products derived from the cannabis plant provide a number of positive health benefits for arthritis patients.

For instance, one animal study published by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) found that topical CBD can help relieve arthritis symptoms in the knees.[3] This study credits the reduction of pain and joint swelling, at least in part, to CBD’s anti-inflammatory properties.

Healthline adds that, while more clinical trials need to be conducted in this area, CBD oil also appears to offer promising benefits for individuals seeking an effective pain management option for rheumatoid arthritis.[4] And it does so with rather mild side effects, some of which include nausea, fatigue, diarrhea, and changes in appetite.

When choosing CBD products to reduce arthritis pain, there are two terms that are important to know: full spectrum CBD and CBD isolate.

Full spectrum CBD products include cannabinoids, terpenes, and other compounds extracted from the entire cannabis plant whereas CBD isolates are pure CBD (at least 99 percent) with no other active ingredients.[5]

Which is better for arthritis pain?

Research has found that full spectrum CBD offers more health benefits than CBD isolate due to the synergy that occurs between all of the healthful compounds found within the full spectrum CBD.

For instance, a study published in the journal Pharmacology & Pharmacy used extracts from the cannabis sativa subspecies of the cannabis plant on mice and learned that, when the whole plant was used, it was easier to achieve the desired anti-inflammatory response.[6]

CBD comes in a variety of forms. There are CBD oils and creams, CBD tinctures, CBD gummies, and more. This can make it confusing for arthritis patients to determine which one to use.

The problem with some of these products is that they don’t always provide the desired effect. For instance, CBD gummies have bioavailability issues. This means that your body isn’t able to absorb and use all of the CBD contained within them, essentially lowering the amount of CBD that is available to your endocannabinoid system.

Instead, CBD oil products taken sublingually (under the tongue) don’t have this same bioavailability issues, thus your system can use more of the CBD and you get a better response. In fact, the rate of absorption of CBD oils taken sublingually is 12 to 35 percent compared to oral consumption’s rate of just 4 to 20 percent.[7]

Arthritis patients can also find relief by combining CBD products, ultimately creating a more therapeutic response. For example, using a CBD oil used in conjunction with a quality topical CBD cream can oftentimes provide pain relief.

In addition to choosing the right form of CBD, it is just as important to take the right dose. It’s not uncommon for people to not take a high enough dose of CBD oil and mistakenly think it doesn’t work for them.

Because everyone is different when it comes to dosing, Daniel Clauw, MD, a professor at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, suggests that arthritis patients start with 5 to 10 mg just at night. [8]

If you aren’t getting the relief you seek, you can then slowly increase your dosage up to 50 to 100 mg per day (split between two doses) to reach your desired effect.View Sources  Last Edited: January 18, 2020

16 Impressive Benefits of Drinking Kombucha Tea

Kombucha is a fermented, lightly fizzy sweetened tea with health benefits like aiding in digestion, promoting weight loss, facilitating detoxification, lowering cholesterol levels, boosting heart health, controlling diabetes, and protecting the liver. It also aids in reducing arthritis pain and providing relief from gastric ulcers.
What is Kombucha Tea?

Kombucha tea is a refreshing beverage obtained by the fermentation of sweetened tea with a symbiotic association of acetic acid, bacteria, and specific yeast cultures. Believed to have originated in northeast China during the third century BCE, this miraculous tea has been valued for its unique, refreshing taste and impressive range of medicinal benefits. It is famously known as the ‘Immortal Health Elixir’ in ancient Chinese literature. Other names for kombucha include Manchurian mushroom tea, Russian tea, Kargasok tea, spumonto, tea beer, tea cider, and tea kvass.

It has various flavors depending on whether it’s made from black or green tea and tastes somewhere in the middle of apple cider and champagne.

Kombucha Nutrition Facts

Kombucha contains a range of yeast and bacterial species with polyphenols, amino acids, and organic acids. Post the completion of the fermentation process, the tea develops into a nutritional powerhouse with the richness of minerals like sodium, numerous beneficial enzymes, a range of vitamins such as vitamins B1 (thiamin), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin), B6 (pyridoxin), B9 (folic acid), B12 (cobalamin), vitamin C (ascorbic acid), and many healthful chemical constituents such as gluconic acid, oxalic acid, acetic acid, glucuronic acid, usnic acid, fructose, and lactic acid.
Health Benefits of Kombucha Tea

Let’s take a closer look at the many health benefits of kombucha.

Detoxifies the Body

Kombucha contains large amounts of organic acids like glucuronic acid and powerful antioxidants which help in shielding the body from oxidative damage. The antioxidants present in it look out for free radicals and neutralize their effects, thereby repairing and protecting the body from chronic diseases and inflammation. [1] Furthermore, it prevents the harmful effects of pollution caused by the petroleum products along with plastics, pesticides, resins, and heavy metals.

Improves Digestion

Kombucha is fermented with a live colony of bacteria and yeast, so it works as a probiotic by sustaining gut health and provides relief from various abdominal disorders including chronic constipation and diarrhea. The digestive enzymes present in it enhance the effects of glucuronic acid and aid in the breakdown of proteins and saccharides, making the digestive system more efficient.

Promotes Weight Loss

Kombucha tea boosts metabolism. A high metabolic rate helps in weight loss as it makes you feel more energized, and more likely to engage in regular physical exercise. Also, the sugar and calorie content in this fermented tea is very little, five times lesser than a fizzy drink.

Protects Liver

Kombucha possesses the remarkable ability to detoxify the body. It contains a powerful detoxifier glucuronic acid which binds the toxins by entering the liver and eliminates them via kidneys. This helps in reducing the burden on the pancreas and keeps the liver healthy. A research study has shown that this tea helps in restoring the levels of glutathione and is remarkably effective in reducing hepatotoxicity. [2] A comparative study conducted on black tea, kombucha tea, and enzyme-processed black tea has proven the superiority of kombucha tea in providing hepatic protection against toxicity due to the antioxidants in it. [3]

Maintains Cholesterol Levels

Another superb benefit offered by kombucha tea is the maintenance of healthy levels of cholesterol. [4] Research studies have provided qualitative evidence regarding the anti-lipidemic properties of this tea which help in reducing the absorption of LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol) and triglycerides, and elevating the levels of HDL (good cholesterol) in the body. [5] [6]

Prevents Heart Diseases

Studies show that drinking kombucha can be beneficial for the heart as it regulates cholesterol as well as lowers triglyceride levels in the blood. [7]

Controls Diabetes

Kombucha is a natural therapeutic agent which helps in suppressing the factors that cause diabetic conditions. A comparative study involving black tea and kombucha has revealed that kombucha has better inhibiting properties as compared to black tea and aids in a superior deterrence of the elevated blood glucose levels. [5] The study has also suggested that the tea exerts healing action on the pancreas of diabetic individuals and helps in guarding their liver and kidney functions by reducing the concentration of urea and other unfavorable activities occurring in the plasma membrane.

Prevents Cancer

The antioxidant-rich tea possesses anti-microbial properties and prevents conditions such as cancer as it contributes productively to maintaining cellular health and strong immune defense. Studies have shown that glucaric acid present in it is quite effective in the prevention of various types of cancer including pancreatic, colon, and breast cancer. [8] As stated earlier, the detoxification qualities of the drink also contribute to the prevention of different cancers.

Relieves Arthritis Pain

Kombucha contains glucosamines which are beneficial in the prevention and treatment of all types of arthritis. Glucosamine present in it stimulates the production of hyaluronic acid, which helps in the maintenance of cartilage structure and provides relief from the pain associated with arthritis. [9] Hyaluronic acid aids in reducing the free radical damage, lubrication, and elasticity of the joints by empowering the connective tissue to bind the moisture.

Enhances Mood

Kombucha has a variety of amino acids, methylxanthine alkaloids (caffeine, theophylline, and theobromine), ascorbic acid (vitamin C), and B vitamins (including B1, B6, B9, and B12), which are needed for a healthy nervous system. This helps in inhibiting the release of stress hormone cortisol, battling depression, balancing mood, and enhancing concentration. Regular consumption of this tea can also help you overcome sleep disorders. Depression is one of the symptoms of a leaky gut. Drinking the tea can rewire the gut-brain axis and heal gut inflammation to promote mental health.

Boosts Immunity

Kombucha is rich in numerous antioxidants that strengthen the immune defense and boost the energy levels of the body. The anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties of this tea help in fighting various bacterial and viral infections. A study conducted on this tea has validated the fact that intake of this drink may help in boosting the immune system. [10]

Anti-microbial Effects

Kombucha tea has anti-microbial properties which may prove effective against a variety of pathogens. An investigative research has revealed that apart from acetic acid, it contains other anti-microbial components, which even at neutral values of pH, provide protection against a range of microorganisms including Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermis, Escherichia Coli, Salmonella enteriditis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Listeria monocytogens, and Helicobacter pylori. [11]

Treats Asthma

The theophylline in kombucha is well known as a bronchodilator, which helps control chronic asthma due to its anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, and bronchoprotective effects.

Heals Gastric Ulcers

Kombucha provides relief from discomfort caused by gastric ulcerations. Studies conducted have revealed that antioxidants and phenols present in this tea help in protecting the mucin content in the gastric tissues and decrease the secretion of excess gastric acids. [12] The same study also suggested that the efficacy of the tea in healing gastric ulcers is at par with the commercially available drug, omeprazole.

Improves Cellular Health

Kombucha helps in maintaining cellular health which is vital for the healthy functioning of the body. A study performed on its tea has shown the protective effects against induced cytotoxicity and demonstrated positive results with respect to the factors implicated in the reduction of cellular toxins. [13]

Other Uses

Finally, kombucha drink has a revitalizing effect which helps retain the natural color of the hair, keeps the skin firm and improves the feeling of overall health and vigor. [14] It is an effective wound healer, which is also known to improve eyesight. [15] Apart from a plethora of health benefits mentioned above, kombucha culture can also be utilized to manufacture artificial leather. [16]

How to Prepare Kombucha Tea?

Kombucha tea is prepared by mixing the colony of bacteria and yeast (called SCOBY, which is an acronym for “symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast”) into sugar and tea, which is followed by fermentation in suitable and sterile conditions.
While sometimes referred as kombucha mushroom, there is no mushroom associated with kombucha. The SCOBY is also called the kombucha mushroom or Mother. This live yeast present in the beverage provides it an active life which carries on even after transferring it into the storage containers. [17] The culture includes Candida stellata, Zygosaccharomyces baili, Brettanomyces bruxellensis, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Torulaspora delbrueckii, and Schizosaccharomyces pombe yeasts.
After fermentation, the resultant fluid is a healthy beverage containing a wealth of vitamins, vinegar, and many powerful components.

Side Effects of Kombucha Tea

Although kombucha has been valued as a phenomenal healer, brewing the tea under non-sterile conditions can cause contamination and spoilage which can be extremely harmful. [18]

  • Ceramic pots for brewing: Usage of ceramic pots during the brewing process of the kombucha tea can raise the risk of lead poisoning. [18] The tea, while brewing, has the potential to elute lead from the glaze coating used in the ceramic pots making it unfit for consumption.
  • Gastrointestinal toxicity: Another side effect of kombucha tea is gastrointestinal discomfort, which can cause the onset of symptoms including nausea, vomiting, jaundice, and headaches. [19]
  • Lactic acidosis: Consumption of this tea can result in lactic acidosis in some individuals which can further lead to severe circumstances. [20]
  • Suppressed immune system: While kombucha can activate the immune system, it is not suitable for those on immunosuppressant medication.

Prior to considering kombucha for therapeutic usage, it is always advisable to consult a medical professional to better understand its effects.

She Allegedly Retired

It’s been about 7 months since Valerie retired. And  WHOA is in her vocabulary!!!  She had no idea it was going to be the way it is.  Just to summarize that she did work in law enforcement for 26 years and  also wore many hats on top of that.  She studied singing, dance, started a blog and is also raising a responsible teen.  So needless to say prior to retirement she was on a fast paced treadmill.  And was able to run quite fast.  Did she get tired?  Hell yeah but she just kept pushing herself because after all that’s the  way she was trained.  No Pain, no gain.

Fast forward to retirement and now she finally gets a chance to rest and relax.  Umm not exactly.  She designed her retired life to keep herself on that treadmill.  How and why did she do that?  Well she got a puppy, kept up with all of my hobbies and realized that she was really exhausted.  But she kept pushing herself anyway.  Now instead of stressing about deadlines at work, she was stressing about getting the dishes done and doing laundry.  Seriously?  How the hell did that happen?

tired office worker

She realized that people get so programmed to go at such a high rate of speed that it is difficult to slow down.  Imagine when you are on a tread mill and you get off suddenly, well your heart keeps racing and it takes a little while for it to slow down.  Well that’s exactly what happens when you retire.  It takes a minute to slow down.  Except it’s a rude reality check to realize that you never got off the treadmill.  The treadmill just changed from the treadmill to “Plogging.”

The realization that one seriously just needed to rest.  Stopping all work just isn’t possible as a mom, your on call 24/7.  Especially with a puppy.  (counting respiration rates, taking temperatures of a puppy and trying to find her pulse, trips back and forth to UC Davis etc.)

How the heck do you slow down anyway?  The answer is to take time to rest.  Maybe  watching TV is not a waste of time.  I usually watch an interesting movie but you really need that downtime.

happiness

If you allow yourself to rest you will find  that one will start to feel more calm and sleep better at night.  Work still occurs but now just take more breaks and  don’t worry about anything.  Valerie is recovering from all of those years of over work.  Her favorite thing is when  plans are made and the plans fall through.  She stopped putting on make up as much.  Started doing yoga everyday.  Basically getting back to basics.  Valerie realized that “Yoga Teacher heal thyself.” has real meaning. Getting back on the yoga mat and just let go of the past and the future.  Allow yourself the time to rest and heal.

What was the result?  Well She feels way better.  She is more calm and relaxed.

Everyone is different in their experience.  And by the way what works for you might not work for everyone or maybe you want the freedom to explore your own options.  It’s called Freedom of Choice.  So please do what your heart desires.

Remember even cell phones get a chance to charge themselves.

Eco Friendly Buyer’s Guide

Let me just start with saying that I am not receiving any endorsements or kick backs from any of these companies.  I like that I can just be independent and if I find something that is awesome, I can freely discuss it and not have to feel like I am bought and paid for. So just for the record, these are items that I have found at my local grocery store, Nugget Markets.  They do have quite a few Eco Friendly products and it’s worth it for our planet to support these companies and also you can go on line to purchase as well.

if you care

1)The First product is called “IF YOU CAREPaper Snack & Sandwich Bags.”  I did purchase these and they give you 48 bags that are compostable, unbleached and totally chlorine free.  They have no Paraffin Wax, Not chemically treated  and it keeps bread soft up to 6 hours.  It’s also has all of these approvals from FSC, VINCOTTE that it’s OK to compost, USDA Certified BIOBASED PRODUCT.  Usually my kid puts just snack type items in them.  Such as crackers or chips.  But I feel so good knowing that I don’t have to use those wretched plastic sandwich baggies which are killing marine line and are made from Petroleum products.  So big shout out to Nugget for carrying this product.

2) World Centric has compostable straws.  (I couldn’t use the image due to copyright) They are made from corn not petroleum.  I think this is a great alternative for plastic straws.   It’s understandable to use them when driving or if you have small kids or if you have a disability or a medical procedure.  So if you really need them then they do have these at Nugget or you can order them from here.

Other options include stainless steel, glass and bamboo.  Also they have them made out of cookies as well.

chico bag

3)Chico Bags are super convenient and cool.  They break down into these small little bags you can keep in your purse.  And when you need it, you can open it up and have a bag in two shakes of a lambs tail.  These are available at Nugget or you can get it here.

TP

4)  I tried to find some toilet paper that was not in plastic.  They did have toilet paper that  was from recycled paper but it was wrapped in plastic.  So that defeats the whole purpose of having sustainable toilet paper.  There is a Toilet Paper called Who Gives A Crap.  They give money to build toilets.  So you can feel good when you use toilet paper and you can buy it here.

forks

5)These Repurpose utensils are BPA Free, Plant renewable and compostable. What more do you need?  These are so awesome and anyone who buys these is a rock star and an official Earth Angel.  So all you have to do is buy this kind of stuff and you are an Official Earth Angel.  Thanks for caring and you can order these here.

Valerie is a Health and Wellness Coach and a Plogger.  (Jogging and picking up trash) She’s on a mission to spread the news about living a more sustainable life style. The more Eco Friendly items people use the less harm to the ocean and marine life. Thanks for caring.

The Path of Least Resistance according to Dr. Wayne W. Dyer

waterlily-pink-water-lily-water-plant-158465.jpegWell I’ve been reading The Power of Intention by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer for quite sometime.  I bought it years ago and it was on my book shelf for at least 5 years.  Then when I finally decided to read it I was only reading one page before bed.  So I have been reading this book for at the very least 1 year.  And if a better book comes along, I will drop this one so fast.

Something about the book is difficult for me because he challenges my thinking and of course I want to keep doing things the way I am doing them.  So if I find a great book on Essential Oils, I will drop this book so fast, it won’t even know what hit it.

But anyway Dr. Wayne W. Dyer has some amazing things to say and so when something is just like “Whoa!!”  I’ve just got to blog about it.  I can’t keep it to myself.  So my service is spreading these really profound concepts that can just be life changing.

pexels-photo-414160.jpeg

So he talks about the Path of Least Resistance.  The Universe loves you so much and when you love yourself in the same proportion, then you are matched up with the field of intention.  You have opted for the path of no resistance.  As long as the ego is present, you’ll retain some resistance.  Take the path in which resistance is minimized.

The shape and quantity of your thoughts determine the amount of resistance.  Thoughts that generate bad feelings are resistant thoughts.  Any thought that puts a barrier between what you would like to have and your ability to attract it into your life is resistance.  Your intention is to live a tranquil life, free of stress and anxiety.  You know that stress doesn’t exist in the world, and that there only people thinking stressful thoughts.  Stressful thoughts all by themselves are a form of resistance.  You don’t want stressful, resistant thoughts to be your habitual way of reacting to your world.  By practicing thoughts of minimal resistance, you’ll train yourself to make this your natural way of reacting, and eventually you’ll become the tranquil person you desire to be, a stress-free person free of the “dis-ease” that stress brings to the body.  Stressful thoughts all by themselves are the resistance that you construct that impedes your connection to the power of intention.

We’re in a world that advertises and promotes reasons to be anxious.  You’ve been taught that feeling good in a world where so much suffering exists is an immoral stance to take.  You’ve been convinced that choosing to feel good in bad economic times, in times of war, in times of uncertainty or death, or in the face of any catastrophe anywhere in the world is crass and inappropriate.  Since these conditions will always in in the world someplace, you believe you can’t have joy and still be a good person.  But it may not have occurred to you that in a universe based on energy and attraction, thoughts that evoke feeling bad originate in the same energy Source that attracts more of the same into your life.  These are resistant thoughts.

Here are some examples of sentences on the PATH OF RESISTANCE, which are then changed to sentences on the path of least resistance.

I feel uneasy about the state of the economy; I’ve already lost so much money. I live in an abundant universe; I choose to think about what I have and I will be fine.  The universe will provide.

I have so many things to do that I can never get caught up. I’m at peace in this moment.  I’ll only think about the one thing I’m doing.  I will have peaceful thoughts.

I can never get ahead in this job.  I choose to appreciate what I’m doing right now, and I’ll attract an even greater opportunity.

My healthy is a huge concern.  I worry about getting old and becoming dependent and sick.  I’m healthy, and I think healthy.  I live in a universe that attracts healing, and I refuse to anticipate sickness.

My family members are causing me to feel anxious and fearful.  I choose thoughts that make me feel good, and this will help me uplift those family members in need.

I don’t deserve to feel good when so many people are suffering.  I didn’t come into a world where everyone is going to have the same identical experiences.  I’ll feel good, and by being uplifted, I’ll help eradicate some of the suffering.

I can’t be happy when the person I really care about loves another and has abandoned me.  Feeling bad won’t change this scenario.  I trust that love will return to my life if I’m in harmony with the loving Source.  I choose to feel good right now and focus on what I have, rather than what’s missing.

All stressful thoughts represent a form of resistance you wish to eradicate.  Change those thoughts by monitoring your feelings and opting for joy rather than anxiety, and you’ll access the power of intention.

Valerie back again.  Wow isn’t that just amazing.  We can change our negative scary thoughts into something positive.  My favorite is : I have so many things to do that I can never get caught up.  Man I say that a lot.  But who is keeping track that all this stuff needs to get done anyhow?  Nobody really cares.  There’s no inspector coming over anytime soon.  So I just need to calm the fuck down and just remind myself that I’m at peace in this moment.  I’ll only think about the one thing I’m doing.  I will have peaceful thoughts.

Fast Track through Dr.Wayne Dyer’s The Power of INTENTION

Have you ever read a book and it’s called something like How to have The Best Sex of your Life?  And you really want to find out, How to have the best sex of your life.  And the author is just talking about the history of sex and ethics and religion and mores.  And you want to just get to the part about the sex.  But no you have to weed through all of that stuff until way back on page 250, they start to get down to the nitty gritty.

Well I read Dr. Wayne Dyer’s book, called The Power of INTENTION.  Now I will say that it was a very good book and I do recommend reading it in its entirety.  But if you want to read this blog instead, I will give you the highlights of how you can go about living a really abundant life and hopefully cut through a bunch of bull shit.

Now some of these concepts may be a little bit advanced, and that’s fine.  But it’s kind of like something to shoot for.  It’s like when you read the Olympic Athlete’s training schedule and then you say, Oh that’s how they are in such good shape.  So it’s kind of a way of taking your spiritual blood pressure and heart rate.  Just a little assessment about where you are and maybe where you might choose to be.

Step 1:  See the world as an abundant, providing, friendly place.  When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.  When you see the world as an abundant and friendly, your intentions are genuine possibilities.  They will in fact, become a certainty, because your world will be experienced from the higher frequencies.  In this first step, you’re receptive to a world that provides rather than restricts.  You’ll see a world that wants you to be successful and abundant, rather than one that conspires against you.

Step 2:  Affirm: I attract success and abundance into my life because that is who I am.  This puts you into vibratory harmony with your Source.  Your goal is to eliminate any distance between what you desire and that from which you pull it into your life.  Abundance and success aren’t out there waiting to show up for you.  You are already it and the Source can only provide you with what it is and consequently what you are already.

Step 3: Stay in an attitude of allowing.  Resistance is disharmony between your desire for abundance and your beliefs about your ability or unworthiness.  Allowing means a perfect alignment.  An attitude of allowing means that you ignore efforts by others to dissuade you.  It also means that you don’t rely on your previous ego-oriented beliefs about abundance being a part of or not a part of your life.  In an attitude of allowing, all resistance in the form of thoughts of negativity or doubts are replaced with simply knowing that you and your Source are one and the same.  Picture the abundance you desire freely flowing directly to you.  Refuse to do anything or have any thought that compromised your alignment with Source.

Step 4:Use your present moments to activate thoughts that are in harmony with the seven faces of intention.  The key phrase here is present moments.  Notice right now, in this moment, if you’re thinking that it’s hopeless at this stage of your life to change the thoughts that comprise your belief system.  Do you defeat yourself with thoughts of having had such a long life practicing affirmations of scarcity and creating resistance to your success and abundance that you don’t have enough time left to counterbalance the thoughts that compromise your past belief system?

Make the choice to let go of that lifetime of beliefs, and begin activating thoughts right now that allow you to feel good.  Say I want to feel good whenever anyone tries to convince you that your desires are futile.  Say I want to feel good when you’re tempted to return to low-energy thoughts of disharmony with intention.  Eventually your present moments will activate thoughts that make you feel good and this is an indicator that you’re reconnecting to intention.  Wanting to feel good is synonymous with wanting to feel God.  Remember, “God is good, and all that God created was good.”

Step 5: Initiate actions that support your feelings of abundance and success.  Here, the key word is actions.  I’ve been calling this acting as if or thinking from the end and acting that way.  Put your body into a gear that pushed you toward abundance and feeling successful.  Act on those passionate emotions as if the abundance and success you seek is already here.  Speak to strangers with passion in your voice.  Answer the telephone in an inspired way.  Do a job interview from the place of confidence and joy.  Read the books that mysteriously show up and pay close attention to conversations that seem to indicate you’re being called to something new.

Step 6: Remember that your prosperity and success will benefit others, and that no one lacks abundance because you’ve opted for it. Once again, the supply is unlimited.  The more you partake of the universal generosity, the more you’ll have to share with others.  In writing this book, wonderful abundance has flowed into my life in many ways.  But even more significantly book editors and graphic designers, the truck drivers who deliver the book, the auto workers who build the trucks, the farmers who feed the auto workers, the bookstore clerks… all receive abundance because I’ve followed my bliss and have written this book.

Step7: Monitor your emotions ad a guidance system for your connection to the universal mind of intention.  Strong emotions such as passion and bliss are indications that you’re connected to Spirit, or inspired, if you will. When you’re inspired, you activate dormant forces, and the abundance you seek in any form comes streaming into your life.  When you’re experiencing low-energy emotions of rage, anger, hatred, anxiety, despair and the like, that’s a blue that while your desires may be strong, they’ve completely out of sync with the field of intention.  Remind yourself in these moments that you want to feel good and see if you activate a thought that supports your feeling good.

Step 8: Become as generous to the world with your abundance as the field of intention is to you. Don’t stop the flow of abundant energy by hoarding or owning what you receive.  Keep it moving.  Use your prosperity in the service of others, and for causes greater than your ego.  The more you practice detachment the more you’ll stay in vibratory harmony with the all giving Source of everything.

Step 9: Devote the necessary time to meditate on the Spirit within as the source of your success and abundance.  There’s not substitute for the practice of meditation.  This is particularly relevant with abundance.  You must have an understanding that your consciousness of the presence is your supply.  By repeating the sound that is in the name of God as a mantra, you’re using a technique for manifesting as ancient as recorded history.  I am particularly drawn to the form of meditation I’ve mentioned previously, called Japa.  I know it works.

Step 10: Develop an attitude of gratitude for all that manifests in your life.  Be thankful and filled with awe and appreciation, even if what you desire hasn’t arrived yet.  Even the darkest days of your life are to be looked on with gratitude.  Everything coming from Source is on purpose.  Be thankful while empowering your reconnection to that from which you and everything else originated.

Well there you have it.  Wish you all the abundance and love in your life now and forever.

Love,

Val

Have a Plan if You are Freaking Out

awake guyHave you ever woke up in the morning with so much to do that you don’t even know where to get started.  Your thoughts include, “I  have to put away the dishes, and then take a shower, get ready for work and after work take my kid to the Dr. And that project is due and I have to work with that bitch I can’t stand.  I wonder if my boss really hates me?” You lie there thinking these thoughts over and over and meanwhile the clock is going tick tock tick tock and you’re not getting anything done.

And if it’s your day off then the to do list is just a little different but you’re still thinking about all the chores and what are you going to make for breakfast and it can begin to drive you a little nutty.

And sometimes the thoughts have to do with the thoughts.  “Why am I thinking this?  Is there something wrong with me?  Am I sick?  What does it mean when I feel pressure on my chest?”  On and on and on.

Well guess what?  These thoughts will not just go away by osmosis.  But what also won’t go away are all of the plans you have and things you want to do.  So what you have to do is have a plan when you wake up with all of thoughts that are somewhat paralyzing.
planning

You can just say yeah yeah to the thoughts.  And tell them what Scarlett O Hara said in Gone With the Wind,  “I’ll think about that tomorrow.”   The trick is that you have to have a plan.  You just have to get up and start your day.  Now if it’s 2:00 AM and you went to bed at midnight and you are waking up, you might not want to get up.  But if you went to bed at 10 and it’s 4:00 AM, well guess what, it’s time to start your day.  That’s right.  Get your ass up out of bed and make it.

When you wake up early and everyone else is asleep, this is the hour that God is calling you.  It is the time when everyone else is asleep and it’s quiet.  When you wake up early it is the perfect time for meditation and yoga.  It’s also in the rhythm with the natural circadian rhythm of our bodies.  Our bodies naturally want to wake up early.  They also want to go to sleep when it’s dark.

Because we have only had electricity within the last 100 plus years, our bodies have not really adjusted to it.  We’re still hard wired like our ancestors.  Which means we rise when the sun does and we go to sleep when the sun goes down.

So our bodies get out of sync and that’s when the anxiety starts up because our body is warning us that we are pushing ourselves too hard.  But you can turn it around.

You have to treat yourself like you are a baby. Which is a perfect time to read an article on how to properly care for yourself here.

This is a super quick post.  But I am kind of just being really short with this post because to be honest, I can write quite a bit and it seems like people have short attention spans and just want the info really quick.  So I am just getting this out fast.

So do people like information really fast and direct or do they prefer lots of detail.  That’s the question.  Please feel free to let me know.  Because I really would love some input.  That’s me asking for help.  Because when you need help, PLEASE ASK!!!!!!!!!!

Dark Vegan Chocolate Ice Cream

I don’t tolerate dairy well and started buying the dairy free ice cream.  It started to get expensive and they still put questionable ingredients in the ice cream so I decided to make my own.  I purchased an ice cream maker which is a Cuisinart ICE-21 and I made my first batch.  It comes with a booklet but of course I don’t follow instructions and adapted it to my own recipe.

I won’t bore you with a bunch of words and just get right down to it.

  • 3/4 cup raw cacao powder sifted (a good place to get this too is at Marshall’s or Homegoods
  • 1/2 cup  coconut crystals(if it’s not sweet enough add another 1/3 cup)
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 2 cups coconut cream (you can also find it at Trader Joe’s
  • 1/2 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • optional handful chopped walnuts (it would also taste good with mini marshmallows but I didn’t have any)

Mix up all the ingredients and put them in the frozen bowl that comes with the ice cream maker and 20 minutes later, you have a finished product.  You can also put it in the freezer for 2 hours but then take it out 15 minutes before you want to eat it because it will be rock solid.  (I tried to eat it anyway and I couldn’t.  It’s literally thawing right now as I type this.

ice cream maker

PS:Remember this is a dark chocolate recipe and the raw cacao has all of the wonderful anti-oxidants so it will help with slowing down the aging process and it’s allegedly an aphrodisiac. I’ll eat to that.  But remember the cacao does contain caffeine so you might want to eat this in the afternoon if you are sensitive to that.  I hope you like it.  I did finally get to eat it and it was rich and yummy and I love it.

Retirement Performance

VAL DANCING STAGE

Retirement Performance

When I first decided that I wanted to dance at my retirement party, my main motivation was because it was a dream of mine. I wanted to do it because I wanted to see exactly what my capabilities were at age 50. I felt that since I was a yoga instructor and a health coach that I should have the ability to perform and with the proper instruction, anything is possible.

So the dance training began and I found it to be very difficult. I had an injury at the same time I started training so I had to be very careful not to hurt myself. But I knew that I loved dancing and I just wanted to put on this epic performance at my party. I had an interest in belly dancing for years and I had done some training starting in 2008. I took a few classes with a local dance instructor and watched some videos but I hadn’t found a dance instructor in my area that I really was compatible with.
Then in 2015, I had surgery and the Dr. gave me the usual recommendation which was not to exercise for 6 weeks. I really despise that recommendation but of course I followed the Dr’s orders. They told me walking was fine.  Yoga was still not an option but the one thing I was able to do was belly dancing. And it just felt amazing on my spine, neck, shoulders and hips. Thus a belly dancer was born.
I soon realized that yoga and belly dancing were very much intertwined with one another.

VAL SPINNING
I kept up the belly dancing and I even taught a workshop at Angeline’s dance studio in 2016. I had previously been a Zumba and U-Jam Fitness Instructor and I felt comfortable dancing in front of people and I knew I wanted to perform at my retirement party in front of my loved ones, but I felt belly dancing alone would just feel completely inappropriate and I knew if I wanted it to turn out good, then I needed professional training and choreography.

I picked the song which was Transcendence by Lindsey Stirling and it had a classical feel to it. Although I used to belly dance at home to that song, I knew that ballet would go nicely with it as well.

At first I wanted to do a partner dance. But it’s difficult to find a partner and I decided to just do private instruction.
So it was going to be a belly dance/ballet fusion dance.
So ballet is very challenging. It’s pilates on steroids as I like to call it. And I was still working at the time and my work was not helping the situation at all. Because all of the sitting was counter productive. But I kept up with the training and the video is the final result.
When I watch the video, I feel happy with certain parts and other parts, I wish were better. But overall, I feel grateful that I had the ability and opportunity to dance and perform especially at the age of 50.

Sometimes when the fear strikes me when I think about releasing a video, I just think well if someone wants to criticize me that’s fine. They can go ahead and do a performance and then we can discuss my performance afterwards.
