Invest In Your Health Now or Pay Dearly Later

What’s Happening Now

In the USA there is a serious problem with obesity and preventable diseases such as heart disease and cancer. As a health Coach I see many unhealthy people in my community. Am I the healthiest person? Probably not but I started this Blog because many of my co workers were committing suicide and also have a shortened life due to stress. It just makes me very sad to see people getting sick and dying unnecessarily.

Because of the fast paced lifestyle, many people don’t have time to cook for their families and so they rely on the restaurants to feed them. Many of these restaurants are very unhealthy due to excessive, salt, fat and sugar. I’m talking about McDonald’s and Taco Bell etc. and they contribute to weight gain and your taste buds get used to all of the fat and sugar and then regular food such as fruit and vegetables just tastes very bland.

I know it’s a lil dull but add some nuts to it and dressing and bam!!

Over time people are developing disease such as heart conditions, high blood pressure, cancer and type 2 diabetes. In order to stay alive, they must take medication in order to stay alive. The medications are very expensive. One friend has to pay $750 for one medication per month. This person worked very hard all their live and worked for 40 years for the Government. So now they have to pay $750 per month for one medication. That’s ridiculous!!

My whole point is that if we don’t take the time to invest in ourselves now because you “can’t afford” it, well guess what you are going to pay later financially and possibly with your life. It really saddens me to write this but we have to know that we have choices.

I understand that not everyone loves to cook. I don’t love it either!! It’s time consuming and then there is a big mess to clean up afterwards. I do it because I can know exactly what I’m eating and just feel better when I eat right.

What you can do?

First off, go to your doctor and get a physical with lab work to find out exactly what’s going on. If you don’t know where you are then you have no way to get out of the situation. Yes it’s not fun to weigh yourself and or get poked with needles. But you are worth it. Depending on what they say, you can make a plan for yourself. Most insurance plans have educational materials or classes that you can take. They want people to be healthy because it’s a huge expense for our health care system. So start there.

If you like to cook, start meal planning. But if you don’t, then look into a healthy meal deliver service such as Hello Fresh. With meals starting at $6.99 I think everyone can afford that. For the record I’ve never tried this service but I think it’s worth looking into as the food looks delicious. But you will have to clean up after yourselves because you have to cook it.

Another option is Fit Eats out of Sacramento, CA. This one you don’t have to cook or clean. Again I have never tried this but I know people who have and they seem to enjoy it. There is also Blue Apron which I have never tried either. These are suggestion because drastic times calls for drastic measures.

Don’t be afraid to get professional help

There are counselors, dietitians, personal trainers that are waiting to assist you as you learn how to change your habits. Everything is a habit but you can change your habits. It takes about 21 days to change a habit. Will it be easy, no but you are so worth it. And it’s understandable if you cannot afford these services. But I know plenty of people going to football games, going out to bars, concerts, having multiple houses, RV’s etc. They can afford it but they are not valuing their own health. It’s obviously a personal choice for these people. It’s not about looking good in daisy dukes. It’s about your HEALTH.

Do you want to be there for your kids?

It might be hard for you to make changes but hopefully you can think about your children. They need you more than you know. The world needs you too. Let’s get this taken care of now and then you can look back and say, man that was hard work but hey I am feeling so much better now. Ask yourself what you are willing to commit to. You can do it!!

16 Impressive Benefits of Drinking Kombucha Tea

Kombucha is a fermented, lightly fizzy sweetened tea with health benefits like aiding in digestion, promoting weight loss, facilitating detoxification, lowering cholesterol levels, boosting heart health, controlling diabetes, and protecting the liver. It also aids in reducing arthritis pain and providing relief from gastric ulcers.
What is Kombucha Tea?

Kombucha tea is a refreshing beverage obtained by the fermentation of sweetened tea with a symbiotic association of acetic acid, bacteria, and specific yeast cultures. Believed to have originated in northeast China during the third century BCE, this miraculous tea has been valued for its unique, refreshing taste and impressive range of medicinal benefits. It is famously known as the ‘Immortal Health Elixir’ in ancient Chinese literature. Other names for kombucha include Manchurian mushroom tea, Russian tea, Kargasok tea, spumonto, tea beer, tea cider, and tea kvass.

It has various flavors depending on whether it’s made from black or green tea and tastes somewhere in the middle of apple cider and champagne.

Kombucha Nutrition Facts

Kombucha contains a range of yeast and bacterial species with polyphenols, amino acids, and organic acids. Post the completion of the fermentation process, the tea develops into a nutritional powerhouse with the richness of minerals like sodium, numerous beneficial enzymes, a range of vitamins such as vitamins B1 (thiamin), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin), B6 (pyridoxin), B9 (folic acid), B12 (cobalamin), vitamin C (ascorbic acid), and many healthful chemical constituents such as gluconic acid, oxalic acid, acetic acid, glucuronic acid, usnic acid, fructose, and lactic acid.
Health Benefits of Kombucha Tea

Let’s take a closer look at the many health benefits of kombucha.

Detoxifies the Body

Kombucha contains large amounts of organic acids like glucuronic acid and powerful antioxidants which help in shielding the body from oxidative damage. The antioxidants present in it look out for free radicals and neutralize their effects, thereby repairing and protecting the body from chronic diseases and inflammation. [1] Furthermore, it prevents the harmful effects of pollution caused by the petroleum products along with plastics, pesticides, resins, and heavy metals.

Improves Digestion

Kombucha is fermented with a live colony of bacteria and yeast, so it works as a probiotic by sustaining gut health and provides relief from various abdominal disorders including chronic constipation and diarrhea. The digestive enzymes present in it enhance the effects of glucuronic acid and aid in the breakdown of proteins and saccharides, making the digestive system more efficient.

Promotes Weight Loss

Kombucha tea boosts metabolism. A high metabolic rate helps in weight loss as it makes you feel more energized, and more likely to engage in regular physical exercise. Also, the sugar and calorie content in this fermented tea is very little, five times lesser than a fizzy drink.

Protects Liver

Kombucha possesses the remarkable ability to detoxify the body. It contains a powerful detoxifier glucuronic acid which binds the toxins by entering the liver and eliminates them via kidneys. This helps in reducing the burden on the pancreas and keeps the liver healthy. A research study has shown that this tea helps in restoring the levels of glutathione and is remarkably effective in reducing hepatotoxicity. [2] A comparative study conducted on black tea, kombucha tea, and enzyme-processed black tea has proven the superiority of kombucha tea in providing hepatic protection against toxicity due to the antioxidants in it. [3]

Maintains Cholesterol Levels

Another superb benefit offered by kombucha tea is the maintenance of healthy levels of cholesterol. [4] Research studies have provided qualitative evidence regarding the anti-lipidemic properties of this tea which help in reducing the absorption of LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol) and triglycerides, and elevating the levels of HDL (good cholesterol) in the body. [5] [6]

Prevents Heart Diseases

Studies show that drinking kombucha can be beneficial for the heart as it regulates cholesterol as well as lowers triglyceride levels in the blood. [7]

Controls Diabetes

Kombucha is a natural therapeutic agent which helps in suppressing the factors that cause diabetic conditions. A comparative study involving black tea and kombucha has revealed that kombucha has better inhibiting properties as compared to black tea and aids in a superior deterrence of the elevated blood glucose levels. [5] The study has also suggested that the tea exerts healing action on the pancreas of diabetic individuals and helps in guarding their liver and kidney functions by reducing the concentration of urea and other unfavorable activities occurring in the plasma membrane.

Prevents Cancer

The antioxidant-rich tea possesses anti-microbial properties and prevents conditions such as cancer as it contributes productively to maintaining cellular health and strong immune defense. Studies have shown that glucaric acid present in it is quite effective in the prevention of various types of cancer including pancreatic, colon, and breast cancer. [8] As stated earlier, the detoxification qualities of the drink also contribute to the prevention of different cancers.

Relieves Arthritis Pain

Kombucha contains glucosamines which are beneficial in the prevention and treatment of all types of arthritis. Glucosamine present in it stimulates the production of hyaluronic acid, which helps in the maintenance of cartilage structure and provides relief from the pain associated with arthritis. [9] Hyaluronic acid aids in reducing the free radical damage, lubrication, and elasticity of the joints by empowering the connective tissue to bind the moisture.

Enhances Mood

Kombucha has a variety of amino acids, methylxanthine alkaloids (caffeine, theophylline, and theobromine), ascorbic acid (vitamin C), and B vitamins (including B1, B6, B9, and B12), which are needed for a healthy nervous system. This helps in inhibiting the release of stress hormone cortisol, battling depression, balancing mood, and enhancing concentration. Regular consumption of this tea can also help you overcome sleep disorders. Depression is one of the symptoms of a leaky gut. Drinking the tea can rewire the gut-brain axis and heal gut inflammation to promote mental health.

Boosts Immunity

Kombucha is rich in numerous antioxidants that strengthen the immune defense and boost the energy levels of the body. The anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties of this tea help in fighting various bacterial and viral infections. A study conducted on this tea has validated the fact that intake of this drink may help in boosting the immune system. [10]

Anti-microbial Effects

Kombucha tea has anti-microbial properties which may prove effective against a variety of pathogens. An investigative research has revealed that apart from acetic acid, it contains other anti-microbial components, which even at neutral values of pH, provide protection against a range of microorganisms including Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermis, Escherichia Coli, Salmonella enteriditis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Listeria monocytogens, and Helicobacter pylori. [11]

Treats Asthma

The theophylline in kombucha is well known as a bronchodilator, which helps control chronic asthma due to its anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, and bronchoprotective effects.

Heals Gastric Ulcers

Kombucha provides relief from discomfort caused by gastric ulcerations. Studies conducted have revealed that antioxidants and phenols present in this tea help in protecting the mucin content in the gastric tissues and decrease the secretion of excess gastric acids. [12] The same study also suggested that the efficacy of the tea in healing gastric ulcers is at par with the commercially available drug, omeprazole.

Improves Cellular Health

Kombucha helps in maintaining cellular health which is vital for the healthy functioning of the body. A study performed on its tea has shown the protective effects against induced cytotoxicity and demonstrated positive results with respect to the factors implicated in the reduction of cellular toxins. [13]

Other Uses

Finally, kombucha drink has a revitalizing effect which helps retain the natural color of the hair, keeps the skin firm and improves the feeling of overall health and vigor. [14] It is an effective wound healer, which is also known to improve eyesight. [15] Apart from a plethora of health benefits mentioned above, kombucha culture can also be utilized to manufacture artificial leather. [16]

How to Prepare Kombucha Tea?

Kombucha tea is prepared by mixing the colony of bacteria and yeast (called SCOBY, which is an acronym for “symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast”) into sugar and tea, which is followed by fermentation in suitable and sterile conditions.
While sometimes referred as kombucha mushroom, there is no mushroom associated with kombucha. The SCOBY is also called the kombucha mushroom or Mother. This live yeast present in the beverage provides it an active life which carries on even after transferring it into the storage containers. [17] The culture includes Candida stellata, Zygosaccharomyces baili, Brettanomyces bruxellensis, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Torulaspora delbrueckii, and Schizosaccharomyces pombe yeasts.
After fermentation, the resultant fluid is a healthy beverage containing a wealth of vitamins, vinegar, and many powerful components.

Side Effects of Kombucha Tea

Although kombucha has been valued as a phenomenal healer, brewing the tea under non-sterile conditions can cause contamination and spoilage which can be extremely harmful. [18]

  • Ceramic pots for brewing: Usage of ceramic pots during the brewing process of the kombucha tea can raise the risk of lead poisoning. [18] The tea, while brewing, has the potential to elute lead from the glaze coating used in the ceramic pots making it unfit for consumption.
  • Gastrointestinal toxicity: Another side effect of kombucha tea is gastrointestinal discomfort, which can cause the onset of symptoms including nausea, vomiting, jaundice, and headaches. [19]
  • Lactic acidosis: Consumption of this tea can result in lactic acidosis in some individuals which can further lead to severe circumstances. [20]
  • Suppressed immune system: While kombucha can activate the immune system, it is not suitable for those on immunosuppressant medication.

Prior to considering kombucha for therapeutic usage, it is always advisable to consult a medical professional to better understand its effects.

From Blogger to Plogger

A blogger is someone who writes a Web Log which has been shortened to Blogger.  I initially started the Blog because I was very concerned for many of my co workers and American Citizens who I had seen become ill and die from stress related issues such as suicide and also many of my old co workers died at a young age from heart disease and just not waking up in the morning.  They were dying too young.  I thought as a Health Coach that starting a Blog would be a great way to share my knowledge.  You see I myself was on a dangerous path.pexels-photo-262218.jpeg

I was very anxious, stressed and I knew if I didn’t get a grip on things, I too would have a shortened life.  Being a Mom, I knew that my daughter needed me to get a grip.  So I decided to learn what I needed to do to heal myself.  I am still on my journey.  I still do experience stress and get depressed at times.  I am a human and we have a wide range of emotions and experiences.

I was born in the 60’s and when I was a child I remember seeing those commercials that said, “Give a hoot, don’t pollute.  Never be a dirty bird.”  I really took that to heart and knew that pollution was a bad thing because I did not want to be a “dirty bird.”  So it kind of just stayed with me.  But I wasn’t radical about it.  I just recycled and didn’t litter intentionally.
pexels-photo-128421.jpeg

Fast forward to 2017 and I realized that there is a Great Pacific Garbage Patch 3 times the size of France.  There is just too much pollution and it’s killing Flipper, Dory, Nemo and too many other marine life for me to mention.  The worst part is that much of this plastic has broken down into micro-plastic and now the fish eat that and so if you eat fish, you are eating micro plastic too.  That is very unappealing to me.  It really pisses me off because I would love to be eating some fish and chips but I can’t enjoy it when I think that I am eating plastic.  So now I don’t eat fish for that reason but that’s not the only one.  So now that kind of pisses me off.  I’m not going to lie and say that I’m happy about not being able to enjoy seafood.  But it’s OK, I don’t need seafood to survive.

pexels-photo-225869.jpeg

But the Marine Life needs a clean home.  Imagine how you would feel it someone dumped a whole bunch of trash on your front yard, back yard and everywhere you walked there was plastic and then it choked your kid because your kid didn’t know and your child died.  You would be mad AF. And sad!!  Well that’s basically what we are doing to the Marine Life.  They have been on the planet for thousands of years happily enjoying the food chain.

Now they aren’t doing so well.  But luckily The Ocean Clean Up is going to clean the Pacific Ocean starting in 2018.  Thank you so much for starting with the Pacific Ocean.  So now if they are cleaning up this trash from the ocean the last thing we need to be doing is adding more trash to it.  So I decided to do my part which is where the Plogging comes in.

Plogging is jogging and picking up trash.  I don’t jog but I walk and pick it up.  There is no shortage of trash.  It is literally everywhere.  Look around wherever you live.  And I can fill up 4 bags in an hour walk.  I carry as much as I can and then throw it away.  I wear gardening gloves, hiking shoes, hat and I will go behind bushes, go in water ways, hike, go in the streets, anywhere I see it, I will get it.  I kind of consider myself a plastic hunter.  It’s actually fun.  It feels good to get that plastic and put it in its proper place.  But the really cool thing is that I am going to recycle what I can and donate it to the ocean cleanup.

I have to admit I’ve just started doing this because usually I just put it in the Blue Trash Bin and I’m done with it.  But now I want to help out The Ocean Clean Up.  So I haven’t recycled anything yet.  But I’m close to taking it down to the recycling center and getting paid.  I’m sure it won’t be that much.  But I don’t care if it’s $1.00.  Every little bit adds up.

So that is how I went from Blogger to Plogger.  That’s just one of the hats I wear.  My gosh how many hats can one person wear?  But I will say that I need help.  If you are reading this, please for the sake of our planet and future generations, join me in Plogging.  I understand if you are too busy and can’t do it.  I totally get it.  The other things you can do are:

  1. Don’t drink anything from plastic bottles.  It’s bad for you and the planet
  2. Refuse straws!!!!
  3. Take a coffee cup with you when you get coffee
  4. Take a bag with you to the grocery store.
  5.  Donate to me so I can continue to share this message.
  6. Most important DON’T BUY PRODUCE IF IT IS IN PLASTIC.
  7. Eat Fruits and Vegetables, nuts, beans, grains that are not in plastic (glass is fine.)

That’s not too much to ask is it.  And here’s the best part.  Once you start doing this you become an Official Earth Angel.  And because you are now an Earth Angel, you start having amazingly good luck.  Good things will just start coming to you.  But you have to do a little effort on your part.  The other thing you can do if you cannot muster the strength to do any of the above is that you can share this message with people who are like minded.  You know we all have that friend that’s a little crazy for Mother Earth.  Send this article to them.  You’ll still be an Earth Angel.  We just have to do what we can.

Here’s a short video of my puppy Amber and us Plogging.  She loves Plogging.  Please watch here.

Thank you for being Canonized as an Earth Angel.  Just get ready for lots of blessings dear.  Also please follow my Blog and Subscribe to my Youtube channel.

Puppy Gets Excited by Dancing

IMG_5098

I am a dancer.  I dance at home with my puppy, Amber.  It has happened more than once.  The first time I wasn’t paying attention because I was doing a video dancing.  Amber wanted to dance too.  I do have it on video and I think it is pretty funny.

Today I was dancing in my room and just getting into it and not paying attention to my puppy, Amber.  Previously she was just laying there.  As soon as I started doing some fast hip shimmy’s, she went insane.  She started jumping up and then I realized she could feel my vibration.

So dogs feel energy and people feel your energy too (more on that later).    It was just amazing to discover this and I just had to share my new discovery.

Also remember that people can feel your energy too.  So it’s best to just try to wish the best for every person you see.  But if you have low energy, it’s difficult to do that because you are not feeling the best.  You are most likely in survival mode.

Anyway dear ones if you have low energy and you want to feel better, the easiest quickest way is just to focus on gratitude.  It really works but it’s a habit like anything else.pexels-photo-424517.jpeg

Diet is also very important but people don’t know what to eat and what not to eat.  It’s very confusing.  But many people are just stuck on their diet treadmill and can’t see any other possibilities.  But you can change your diet.  Just make sure you are hydrated.  And remember there are many people that would love to help you.  You just have to reach out to them.

OK dear one’s, that’s it for now.  Have a blessed day and know that you are so loved.  More than you realize.  XOXO

It’s Time to Start Taking Climate Change Seriously

sky-earth-galaxy-universe.jpgWake up dear one.  It’s time to wake up and get going.  You see our planet is a little bit sick.  It has too much plastic and the ice caps are beginning to melt.  I will be OK.  Most people reading this will be OK.  But our grandchildren are really screwed.

baby-1356093__480

They will have a really hot planet to deal with.  And it’s not fair because they are not the ones who created the mess in the first place.  It came about through the industrial revolution.  And also not really thinking about the long term effects of say plastic.  The fact that plastic does not break down.  It just gets broken down into smaller and smaller pieces.  It turns into micro plastic and the fish consume it  So when you eat fish, you are actually eating plastic too.

fire sun

It’s not a happy thought.  I am so sorry to be writing this.  I wish I did not have to write about this issue.  But we simply must get all hands on deck and get serious about what exactly is going on.

You may not know but China is not taking the world’s plastic anymore.  So where is all of the wonderful plastic going to end up?  I have no idea.  But I am really concerned about it.  I am going to ask you to please give up the big 4.  Plastic bags, disposable coffee containers, plastic water bottles and straws.  That’s not too hard, is it?

hottie stainless steel

Just think you can be a super hero just by drinking out of that really cool looking stainless steel water bottle.  “Hey hottie, can I have a drink because looking at you is making me hot.”  That’s what all the hotties are going to be saying to you.  Or when you pull out that reusable bag.  Oh don’t even get me started on that.  Basically it means you care.  And you have a good heart.

So do a favor for me and all of the fish, all of the marine life, the coral reef, the polar bears, the ice caps, the Swiss Alps and all of the people that are having their life impacted by climate change and babies that are being born today, please ban the Big 4.  You can do it!!  And we can clean up our planet.  And it’s all because of you Earth Angel.  Trust me I am singing that song to you right now.    And I think if you do those 4 things, you are going to start to develop a lot of good karma and good things will continue to come to you.  You just have to ask for it and also recognize the good things.  Pretty easy don’t you think?
